New World, New Dreams!!!

"I'm so glad to be waking up to a December morning," I said on my Facebook status this morning...

Tagging onto the positive vibe, I can't contain my excitement and happiness to read that Alexander Wang is officially the NEW Creative Director for the house of Balenciaga!!!

After a wave of gorgeous Asian faces like Liu Wen, Xiao Wen Ju and Tao Okamoto appearing on international fashion runways and campaigns, designers of Asian descents are also catching onto the limelight with their beautiful creations.

Multi-talented Asian designers, such as Jason Wu, Philip Lim, Prabal Gurung and Alexander Wang, are continuing to wow editors and buyers worldwide with the collections of their namesake labels.  Besides, there is an apparent visibility of these designers leading well-known and historical fashion houses.  On the row now we've got Derek Lam as Tod's creative director, Humberto Leon and Carol Lim of Opening Ceremony leading Kenzo, and Alexander Wang soon for Balenciaga.  How exciting is that?!

As an Asian, growing up in a traditional Asian family, I used to only see engineer, doctor, teacher or businessman as the ideal ambitions.  Fortunately, my parents never restricted my career choice, but they would constantly remind me to be pragmatic and know the importance of "making money".  So now, even though my parents still barely understand what I do as a Stylist or Visual Merchandiser, they see the joy as well as the results of my passion and hard work.  BIG kudos to these visionnaires, I am utterly thrilled and INSPIRED...!!! ^^

KENZO: new era

Kenzo Takada founded the label, Kenzo, back in the early 70's in which he left since 1993 after he sold it to the French conglomerate, LVMH.  In my recent memories of Kenzo, it has always been an optimistic and joyous ride steered by Antonio Marras.  With his European sensibility, he took Kenzo's clients through a beautiful FLORAL trip that was consistently kept within the feminine and sophisticated silhouettes.

To my surprise, the house of Kenzo announced the departure of Antonio Marras and welcomed the creative duo, Humberto Leon and Carol Lim, who are the creator of their own label, Opening Ceremony (which is one of my favorites!).  As aspected, the label is going through an overhaul under their direction ~ youthful, fresh and contemporary.  Leon and Lim are successfully expanding Kenzo's range of separates.  Dresses have been visibly reduced on the runway, now we get to see more looks that are completed with separates (knitwear, blouses, skirts, trousers and jackets).  Take a sneak peak of some of my favorite pieces from SS13!

SARAH BURTON is the lady who's continuing Lee's legacy into a new decade!
Ever since she stepped up, she has been doing a fantastic job!!!
Her interpretation of McQueen continues to flourish, and she never fails to IMPRESS.

The Fall-Winter 2012 collection for Alexander McQueen's second line, McQ, is

OBSESS(ion): Jil Sander Revisits the 60s

As we're visually immuned to the post 90's "the-shorter-the-better" look, this season,
we're spotting a longer coverage for the legs.
Not that legs aren't supposed to be shown, but it's always nice for fashion to revisit
the times when women are more inclined to the demure and feminine dresses.

For Spring-Summer 2012, Raf Simons created the 60's-inspired look for JIL SANDER
with a wide range of colors, prints, and detailing.

^^ Prints & Texture ^^

If you're trying to catch on the trend,
try out this longer, leaner and below-the-knee silhouette.
Don't get this wrong:
1- you DON'T have to be stick-thin to pull off the look,
2- you DON'T have to buy a body-fitted one, go for a looser option,
3- you DON'T have to be TALL, but the proportion of the cut has to be right.
